The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced new rules regarding the correction in name, date of birth and gender in Aadhar card. Basically, the UIDAI has tightened the rules regarding certain corrections/ updation in Aadhar card. Name Change / Update in Aadhaar Card

Now you can change/update your name in your Aadhar card only twice according to UIDAI's office memorandum dated April 1, 2019.


Date of Birth Correction / Updation in Aadhaar Card

The rules about the correction in DoB have been tightened. Now you can change/update your DoB in your Aadhar card only once according to UIDAI's office memorandum dated April 1, 2019.

Furthermore, the change in DoB is allowed to a maximum of plus or minus 3 years of the DoB recorded during Aadhaar enrolment. In case your DoB of birth is to be updated more than this limit, then you need to follow an exception handling process which may require you to visit Regional Office (RO) of the UIDAI.

At the time of Aadhaar enrolment, you submit a prescribed document for your DoB, your DoB is recorded as Verified. However. In case you do not provide any prescribed proof document for DoB, your DoB of birth is recorded as declared or approximate. However for update of DoB, you are required to submit any of the prescribed documents to prove your DoB.

Update request for a change in date of birth from declared /approximate to verified will be allowed once in lifetime. This will be allowed irrespective of range/limit of change. In such cases, the Aadhar cardholder needs to submit prescribed proof document for the same.

Update request received for change in date of birth which is already verified will not be allowed. In case your DoB is to be updated where it is already verified, then the Aadhar cardholder needs to follow an exception handling process which may require you to visit Regional Office (RO) of the UIDAI.

Now you can change/update your gender in your Aadhar card only once according to UIDAI's office memorandum dated April 1, 2019.


Exceptional cases handling process

The following process will be followed in case name, date of birth and gender are to be updated more than the prescribed limit:
1. You will be required to visit Aadhar Enrolment Centre / Aadhar Update Centre in your area to update your name, DoB or gender. The list of Aadhaar Enrolment / Update Centres is available on the UIDAI official website.
2. In case the update requires the exception handling process, then you will be required to send a request to accept the update through exception handling process to respective regional office of UIDAI via email or post. You also need to send a copy of URN slip, Aadhaar detail and relevant proof detail. You may also call 1947 or send email at help@uidai.gov.in. Note that you not required to visit regional office physically unless specifically asked to visit.
3. Next, the regional office shall do due diligence and ascertain whether the change/update request is genuine or not. The regional office may ask for some additional information from you or carry out a field investigation as may be required.
4. If the regional office ascertains the update request is genuine then the cash shall be sent to the Tech Centre for processing/reprocessing the request
