How to get UAN (Universal Account Number) of EPF through PF number?

Every individual who contributes into the EPF account must know his/her UAN or Universal Account Number. All the services of EPFO like EPF balance check, EPF transfer, EPF withdrawal and many more services are linked to the UAN number. You can access, check and withdraw from your EPF account using your UAN number without any interference from your employer. What is UAN (Universal Account Number)

UAN stands for Universal Account Number. UAN is a 12 digit unique number alloted by EPFO to its members. A UAN number is generated for each of the PF (Provident Fund) Account Number at EPFO. No two EPF member can have the same UAN. This UAN number remains same even with the change of the job. Because of this UAN number, you can easily transfer your EPF balance when you change your job. To avail the benefits of the UAN, you have to activate your UAN. This activation is done through the UAN member portal. After your UAN activation, you can easily check your EPF balance through the UAN.

How to get UAN of EPF through PF number?

In the normal course, ask your employer for your UAN number. The employer should give the UAN number to every employee. Most of the employers use to print UAN number in salary slips. However if your employer does not provide you with the UAN, you can get your UAN through the UAN portal using your PF account number.

Information needed to get your UAN number

Following information required to get your UAN number through the UAN portal

1. PF (Provident Fund) number – Generally mentioned in the salary slip or you can get it from your HR department.

2. Name – as per your PF records.

3. Date of birth – As in the record of the EPFO.

4. Mobile number – You should have mobile as PIN will be sent on the given mobile number.

5. Email Id (Optional).

Procedure to get UAN through PF number

1. Go to the UAN member portal 

2. Click on the link “Know your UAN status”.

3. It will take you to a new page.

4. Select your state and EPFO office from the drop down menu.

5. Enter your PF account number, name, date of birth, mobile number, email id and the captcha code.

6. Once you enter all the details, click on “Get Authorization Pin” button.

7. You will receive a PIN at your mobile number.

8. Enter the PIN number and click on “Validate OTP and get UAN” button.

9. Your UAN number will be sent to your Mobile number.

10. Now you will receive a message as below on your mobile.
