It has an option that allows you to cover the first 8 digits of Aadhaar number in the downloaded Aadhaar or eAadhaar. In this post, let’s take a look at how to download Masked Aadhaar.
What is Masked Aadhaar?
The Masked Aadhaar is a new option
in the eAadhaar. eAadhaar is a password enabled electronic
copy of Aadhaar digitally signed by UIDAI. The eAadhaar is as valid as the
physical copy of Aadhaar for all purposes.
This Aadhaar allows you to mask the first 8 digits of your Aadhaar number in the eAadhaar. It shows only the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar number. However, it will still show your demographic information, photograph, and the QR code.

1. Regular eAadhaar

Features of Masked Aadhaar
1. It is a secured version of eAadhaar.
2. You can now give your
eAadhaar without sharing your Aadhaar number.
3. It allows you to mask the first 8 digits of your Aadhaar number in
eAadhaar.
4. It shows only the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar number.
5. It also shows QR code, demographic
information, and photograph.
6. This is as valid as the
physical copy of Aadhaar for all purposes.
How to download Masked Aadhaar?
You can download the this from
the website of UIDAI (https://uidai.gov.in/).
You need to select between Regular Aadhaar and Masked Aadhaar before downloading
your eAadhaar. Just follow the below step by step process to download it.
1. Visit the UIDAI official website (https://uidai.gov.in/).
2. Click on “Download Aadhaar”
option under the “Aadhaar Online Services” section.
3. There are three ways to download
e-Aadhaar. You can download it by using your 12-digit Aadhaar number, using your
virtual identification (VID) or using your 28-digit enrollment number. Select
any one option.
4. Now choose Masked Aadhaar
as your preference.
5. Enter your Full Name, PIN Code
and Security Code. Click on “request OTP” tab.
6. UIDAI CONSENT will appear on
the screen. Here, you need to click on “I Agree” tab after reading terms and
condition.
7. When you click on “I Agree”
tab, a pop-up will appear on the screen to confirm the last four digits of your
mobile number. If it is correct, then click on “Confirm” tab.
8. OTP will be sent to your registered
mobile number or in case you have m-Aadhaar you can generate TOTP.
9. Enter OTP and click on “Download
Aadhaar” tab.
10. The Aadhaar PDF file is
password enabled.
11. The password for this Aadhaar
PDF file is of 8 characters. The combination of the first four letters of your name (as in Aadhaar) in capital letters
and your year of birth in YYYY format. For example,
Name: Rakesh Singh
Year of Birth: 1985
In the above example, your password
will be RAKE1985 as shown in the image.
12. You can take a printout of your Masked Aadhaar. This Aadhaar
is as valid as the physical copy of Aadhaar to do offline verification for all
purposes.
