India is a democratic country. Voting is every Indian citizen’s right as per the Indian constitution. To do this, you need a voter Id card. The voter Id card is issued by Election Commission of India to every Indian citizen who is eligible to vote. You can apply for voter Id card with the Election Commission of India from the comfort of your home or office through an online application process. Once you successfully applied for a voter Id card, your name will be listed in the electoral rolls. In this post, we will take a look at how to apply for a new voter Id card online.



Who can apply for voter Id card?

All Indian citizens above the age of 18 years are permitted to apply for a voter Id card.

Types of applications for Voter Id Card

1. First-time voter: Application for inclusion of name in the electoral roll for the first-time voter.
2. Change in constituency: Application for inclusion of name in electoral roll on shifting from one constituency to another constituency.
3. Overseas voter: Application for inclusion of name in electoral roll by an overseas elector



Documents required applying for a new voter Id card online

You would require uploading the following documents applying for a new voter Id card online (Supported formats .jpg, .png, .bmp, .jpeg)
1. A scanned photograph
2. Age proof documents: This could be a birth certificate, mark sheet of class 0 or 8 or 5, Indian passport, PAN card, driving licence or Aadhaar letter issued by UIDAI.
3. Address proof documents: This could be Indian passport, driving licence, Bank / Kisan / Post Office current Pass Book, Ration card, Income Tax Assessment order, latest rent agreement, Latest utility bills for that address, either in the name of the applicant or that of his / her immediate relation like parents etc. or any post / letter / mail delivered through Indian Postal Department.

Follow the steps mentioned below to apply for new voter Id card online
1. Visit the website of National Voter's Services Portal (the official portal of the Election Commission of India) http://www.nvsp.in/
2. Click on the first option if you are a new voter / shifting from one constituency to another constituency and click on the second option for the overseas voter.

3. Form 6 will appear in front of you in the Hindi language Change your preferred language from the drop-down menu.

5. Choose your state and district. Now you will be able to see a list of constituencies, choose your current residence constituency.
6. Now, choose between “as a first-time voter” or “due to shifting from another constituency” as per your situation.

7. Fill the required particulars such as mandatory particulars, current address, permanent address and optional particulars to complete the form.
8. Upload the supporting documents (Supported formats .jpg, .png, .bmp, .jpeg).
9. Fill the declaration section and click on "Submit" button to submit the form.

10. Post submission, your form will appear on the notice board of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). It will remain there for one week for any objections (if any) from ERO. If there is no objection raised from ERO, your name will be included in the electoral roll and you will receive your new voter Id card via post.

11. If any objection is made, the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) will hear your case.
12. You will receive information whether your name has been included in the electoral list or not via post or SMS on the mobile number provided by you while filling the form.

    Delhi, which is known to be the capital of India, conducts elections in accordance with the Indian Constitution. All the eligible candidates can apply for a new VoterID Card online in Delhi .

The Voter’s Identity card which is also called the Electronic Photo Identity card or the EPIC card is issued by the Election Commission of India to have accuracy in the Electoral roll and prevent cases of electoral fraud.
