Getting an education loan was never this easy. Vidya Lakshmi Portal is a web-based portal for students seeking education loan. It was initiated by the Union Government of India for the benefit of students for their studies. It provides a single window to access information about education loan schemes of various banks.



Vidya Lakshmi Portal

The Vidya Lakshmi online portal was launched on 15th August 2015. It provides a single window electronic platform to access information and a common application form for education loan and Government scholarships. It is maintained by NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited.



Objectives of Vidya Lakshmi Portal

The main objective of Vidya Lakshmi Portal is to bring on board all banks providing education loan. It is started with a view to enable all poor and middle class students to pursue higher education without any constraints of funds. 

It is expected that students throughout the country will be benefited by this portal and no student misses out on higher education for lack of funds. 

It provides an easy and effective system of getting students loan of all banks at a single window.



Features of Vidya Lakshmi Portal

This portal has the following features
1. It provides education loan schemes of various banks.
2. There is a common application form for students to avail the loan. This form is called Common Educational Loan Application Form (CELAF).
3. Facility to apply for education loan to multiple banks.
4. Student's loan applications can be downloaded by the banks.
5. Banks can also upload loan processing status.
6. Students can send email grievances or queries relating to the loan to the bank.
7. It also provides a link to National Scholarship Portal for information and application for Government Scholarships.


How to register for Vidya Lakshmi Portal?

If you want to apply for education loan on Vidya Lakshmi Portal, you are required to complete sign up process to register on this portal.
1. Visit Vidya Lakshmi Portal www.vidyalakshmi.co.in
2. Click on “Register” tab.
3. Select your title from the dropdown list and enter your name as mentioned on 10th standard mark sheet or the mark sheet attached with your loan application.
4. Enter a valid mobile number. You can provide mobile number of parent or guardian.
5. Enter your email Id. You will not be allowed to change your email Id later. All necessary communications related to your loan will be sent to this email Id.
6. Enter a password and confirm your password by re-entering it.
7. Enter Captcha code and tick the box to agree to terms and conditions.
8. Now click on “Submit” tab.


How to apply for education loan on Vidya Lakshmi Portal?

You must register yourself on this portal. Click on “Login” tab and then choose “Student Login” to log in to the portal. Fill up the Common Education Loan Application Form (CELAF) by entering the required details. 

CELAF is a single form which you can fill to apply for students loan to multiple banks/schemes. Once CELAF is filled then you can search for loan and apply as per your needs and eligibility.

An education loan can also be searched just after login and then apply by filling the CELAF. Using CELAF on this portal, you can apply for a loan to a maximum of three Banks.

How to check the status of the loan on this Portal?

1. Login to the portal.
2. Just, click on “Application Status” tab to check your loan status.
3. The bank will upload the loan processing status of the application on this portal.

Presently, there are 42 banks have already registered their 84 Education Loan Schemes on the Vidhya Lakshmi Portal and integrated their system with this portal for providing the loan processing status to students.
