Generate your UAN using your Aadhaar | Direct UAN Allotment
EPFO (Employee’s Provident Fund Organisation) has started an open functionality at Unified Portal through which any citizen (prospective employee) can generate his/her UAN on the basis of Aadhaar number. You will get an OTP on Aadhaar linked mobile number and after the verification, the system will fetch your basic details like name, date of birth, gender and father’s/husband’s name etc from Aadhaar database and the same shall be displayed on the screen. On the basis of input / fetched details, your UAN will be generated. When you are going for an employment, you can submit the generated UAN to your employer so that the same UAN will be linked to your member Id of that establishment. This facility will help employer as well as employees in availing hassle free service from EPFO.
What is UAN?
UAN (Universal Account Number) is a 12 digit unique number given by
EPFO to its members. This UAN number remains same even with the change of the
job. If you have your UAN, you can easily transfer your EPF balance when you change
your job. To avail the benefits of the UAN, you have to activate your UAN. This
activation is done through the UAN member portal. After your UAN activation,
you can easily avail various services of EPFO through the UAN.
Requirement for generating UAN
In order to generate your UAN yourself, you need your Aadhaar number and
you must have your mobile number registered in Aadhaar database. Without this, your UAN cannot
be generated.
How to generate UAN using your Aadhaar?
Just follow the step by step process given below to generate your own
UAN using your Aadhaar number.
1. Visit the login screen of the
Member Portal (https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/).
3. When you click on the “Direct UAN Allotment” link, it will take you to a new window in your computer.
4. Enter your Aadhaar number and click on “Generate OTP” button.
5. Now you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number.
6. Enter the OTP in the field provided.
7. Accept the Disclaimer provided therein by clicking on the box and click
on “Submit” button in order to proceed further.
8. You will be redirected to a new page. Here you can see your basic details (Name, gender, father's /
husband’s name, date of birth etc) available against your Aadhaar number.
9. Verify your details and enter the required information in the
mandatory fields provided on the screen.
10. Now enter captcha code and accept the Disclaimer provided therein by
clicking on the box.
11. Click on “Register” button to register.
12. With the click on the “Register” button,
a UAN number will be allotted to you and a message will be displayed on the
screen as below.
“Your application with ref No 12XXXXX89 is approved. Your UAN is
12XXXXXXXX12. Please activate your UAN using Activate UAN functionality at https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/
Why EPFO started this service?
You know that UAN is mandatory for filing PF contribution. Currently, only employer can generate UAN of
the employee. Companies with a large number
of new joiners every month are facing difficulty in generation of new UAN due
to mismatch of input data with Aadhaar. Keeping in view the difficulties faced
by the companies, EPFO has started this facility to generate UAN using
Aadhaar at Unified Portal.
