We all prefer to book our train tickets well in advance to get confirmed
tickets. But sometimes there is a last minute change in our travel plans due to
some unavoidable circumstances and we have to go through the hassle of train
ticket cancellation. Now, instead of canceling your confirmed train ticket you
can transfer it to someone else in certain circumstances. In this post, let us
take a look at the guidelines to transfer your confirmed train tickets to
someone else.
Transfer your confirmed Train Ticket to Someone Else
Indian Railways allows you to transfer your confirmed train tickets to
someone else in case you are unable to travel. However, you have to follow
specific guidelines to transfer your confirmed train ticket to another person.
To avail this service, you also need to have a confirmed ticket.

Who is authorized to change the name of a passenger holding a confirmed ticket?
Indian Railway Administration authorized the Chief Reservation Supervisor
of important railway stations to permit the change of name of a passenger
holding confirmed train ticket in his/her name in the following circumstances
namely
1. Government Employees
In case the passenger is a Government employee, proceeding on duty and
appropriate authority, he/she can make a
written request 24 hours before the scheduled departure of trains to transfer a
confirmed train ticket.
2. Family Member
In case the passenger makes a written request 24 hours prior the
scheduled departure of the train that the confirmed train ticket issued in
his/her name may be transferred to another member of his/her family. Here
family means Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Son, Daughter, Husband, and Wife are allowed.
3. Student Passenger
In case the passengers are students of a recognized educational
institution. A written request 24 hours
prior the scheduled departure of the train from the Head of the institution must
be submitted to the Chief Reservation Supervisor, that the confirmed ticket
issued to a student be transferred to any other student of the same institute.
4. Marriage Party
In case the passengers are members of a marriage party and any
individual deemed to be Head of such marriage party makes a written request 48
hours prior the scheduled departure of the train, that the confirmed ticket
issued in the name of any member of the marriage party be transferred to any
other person.
5. National Cadet Corps
In case the passengers are a group of cadets of National Cadet Corps
(NCC) and any officer who is the head of the group, makes a written request 24
hours prior the scheduled departure of the train, that the confirmed ticket
issued in the name of any cadet be transferred to any other cadet.
Notable Points
1. Passengers must keep in mind that such request for transfer of
confirmed train tickets will be granted only once. So use this facility wisely.
2. In case of student passengers, marriage party, and National Cadet
Corps, such request for transfer of confirmed train tickets in excess of 10% of
the total strength of group shall not be allowed.
3. To avail this service, you need to have a confirmed ticket.
4. A written request must be submitted to the Chief Reservation Supervisor
well in advance.
