Aadhaar Card is an important document as it serves as a proof of identity in India. Aadhar is a 12 digit unique identification number issued by UIDAI on behalf of the Indian government which is verifiable online anywhere anytime using the Aadhaar authentication platform. A number of government schemes and services require Aadhar these days for verification and registration purposes. In this post, let us take a look at how to download Aadhaar card / E-Aadhaar, how to find lost or forgotten Aadhaar number (UID) and Enrolment number (EID).  



After enrolment, once your Aadhaar number is generated, you can download it from the UIDAI official website. Below is the step by step procedure for downloading e-Aadhaar card.



Procedure for downloading Aadhar Card / E-Aadhaar Card

To download your E-Aadhaar card, you should have your Aadhar number or your 14 digit enrolment number with you. Just follow the steps given below to download your E-Aadhar card.
1.  Go to the UIDAI website: https://uidai.gov.in/
2. Click on “Download Aadhaar” button on the left-hand side of the screen under “Get Aadhaar” section in “My Aadhaar” on the main menu.

3.  It will take you to a new page.
4. Select the option from the Aadhaar Number, Enrolment Id (EID) or Virtual ID (VID) next to “I have”.
5. Enter your 12 digit Aadhar (UID), 14 digit Enrolment Id (EID) or 16 digits Virtual Id (VID) as per the chosen option.
6. Captcha verification code.

7. Click on “Send OTP” button to get an OTP on your registered mobile number or enter TOTP.
8. Now you will receive One Time Password (OTP) on your registered mobile number.
9. Enter the received OTP and take a Quick Survey.

10. Click on “Verify and Download” tab.
11. Now you can download your E-Aadhar card.
12. The Aadhaar electronic copy is a password-protected document. After downloading your E-Aadhaar card PDF file, use Aadhaar letter PDF Password to open the PDF file.
13. The PDF Password will be in 8 characters. It is the combination of the first four letters of your name in CAPITAL letters and Year of Birth in YYYY format.

For Example
If your name is RAMESH KUMAR and your Year of Birth is 1990
Then your e-Aadhaar password is RAME1989.

14. You can now print this PDF file and this is a fully valid Aadhar card.

How to Find Lost or Forgotten Aadhaar Number (UID) & Enrolment Number (EID)

In case your mobile number/Email is registered in Aadhaar, you can retrieve your lost or forgotten UID/EID by visiting UIDAI website. But if your mobile number is not registered in UIDAI database then you have to visit any Enrolment / Update center to find your lost or forgotten UID/EID.



Finding Lost or Forgotten Aadhaar Number (UID) & Enrolment Number (EID) online

1.  Go to the UIDAI website: https://uidai.gov.in
2. Click on “Retrieve Lost or Forgotten UID/EID” button on the left-hand side of the screen under “Get Aadhaar” section in “My Aadhaar” on the main menu.

3.  It will take you to a new page.
4. Select the option from the “UID or EID” under “Select Option”.
5. Next, enter your full name.
6. Enter your mobile number or email address and Captcha verification code.

7. Click on “Send OTP” button to get an OTP on your registered mobile number or enter TOTP.
8. Now you will receive One Time Password (OTP) on your registered mobile number.
9. Enter the received OTP in Enter OTP section.

9. Click on the “Login” tab.
10. Now, you will receive your Enrolment Number (EID) / UID on your mobile number/ Email.
